Kolkata Tourism

Kolkata is over 300 years old and had a fairy tale beginning. Amongst the British merchants sailing down the river Hoogly was one Job Charnock who rowed ashore to Sutanati, one of a cluster of three villages, the other two being Govindpur and Kalikata. Kolkata owes its origin to this English gentleman as he did pronounce the name of the last village Kolkata is not an ancient city like Delhi, with its impressive relics of the past, the British abandoned Hooghly, their trading post 38km up the Hooghly River from present-day Kolkata, and moved downriver to there small villages - Sutanati, Govindpur and Kailkata. Kolkata takes its name from the last of those three tiny settlements. The Bengali fondness for good food is legendary. Exotic Bengali cuisine is available at selected restaurants like Suruchi and Aheli (Peerless Inn). To experience the true taste of traditional cooking
